The town of Gilbert, Arizona boasts not only a full calendar of events, but also some great spots to enjoy the spring weather. Head to these great places to take in the spring air!
Big League Dreams
If you’ve ever dreamed of playing in a big league ballpark, Big League Dreams Sports Parks are the place for you. Their playing fields are built as scaled-down replicas of famous ballparks such as Boston’s Fenway Park, New York’s Yankee Stadium and Chicago’s Wrigley Field. All are designed to accommodate youth baseball, youth fast pitch softball, and adult slow pitch softball. They also offer special events such as company softball tournaments, company picnics, birthday parties, location shoots, business meetings and even weddings & receptions!
Big League Dreams is also home to the Cactus League Hot Dog Challenge, where judges decide “Who has the best hot dog between the past Cactus League champs and our local Phoenix dogs, such as Alice Cooper’s Cooperstown Big Unit and Blue 32’s Kobe Dog?” All net profits from hot dog and raffle ticket sales benefit “Scott Helping Children.”
Gilbert Farmer’s Market (GFM)
The Gilbert Farmer’s Market takes place in Downtown Gilbert just west of the iconic Water Tower and is open every Saturday. The market features local, chemical free, organic produce from many local farmers, farm fresh eggs, meat, cheese, bread, sweets, coffee & tea, sauces, seasonings and many other locally made artisan products.
Discovery Park
Looking for a great place to throw a frisbee? Go to Discovery Park at 2214 E. Pecos Rd. in Gilbert. Discovery park is a 48 acre park that opened in 2006. The park features 5 multi use fields, basketball courts, sand volleyball pits, 2 ponds, a small playground with a fun climbing rock, a network of multi use trails, and 8 picnic ramadas (with power and bbq grills). You can even reserve the ramadas for special events.
Downtown Concert Series (@ Water Tower Plaza)
The Downtown Concert Series is held at the Water Tower Plaza in the heart of Gilbert’s Heritage District. Pack a picnic basket or visit one of the local restaurants for take out and join them for some evening entertainment. The show takes place at the base of the popular Gilbert water tower, and local bands perform a variety of genres of music. Go to gilbertaz.gov to check out their schedule of performances!
