Custom Athletic Mouthguards

The best way to protect you or your child’s mouth during a sporting event is with an athletic mouthguard. Not all mouthguards are made equal, though. There are three different types. The first type is often called a boil-and-bite mouthguard and can typically be found in a store that sells sporting goods. Boil-and-bite athletic mouthguards provide some protection but don’t offer the kinds of benefits that are possible with a more advanced type.

The second type of mouthguard is fitted to the child’s smile by the doctor during an appointment and results in a better fit than a boil-and-bite mouthguard can achieve. But despite how effective this option is, it doesn’t compare to what’s possible with the third type—a completely custom-made mouthguard.

At Gibbons Dental, our family dentists can supply you or your little one with a completely custom mouthguard , made to fit the teeth perfectly. As a result, you can look forward to excellent protection on the field, the court, the baseball diamond, or wherever else you may need it.

There’s a certain tendency to think of a mouthguard as an optional piece of equipment; something that is helpful, especially in a contact sport like football, but not essential.  In reality, any athlete can benefit from wearing an athletic mouthguard. That’s because, no matter how gentle the sport, an injury is always possible. But thanks to athletic mouthguards, athletes can enjoy special protection for their teeth, lips, cheeks, and gums. A personalized mouthguard can also protect athletes from injuries to the face and even from concussions.
